October 2020
The Old Guard is …
the oldest infantry regiment in the US ARMY with origins beginning in 1784, Garrisoned since 1948 on the acres of Historic Fort Myer, Virginia, the regiment is the U. S. Army’s elite regiment. It has a dual mission of fulfilling ceremonial needs (final honors in Arlington National Cemetery, White House arrivals, Escort to the President, and more!) and defending the nation’s capital – Washington DC.
Among the Old Guard regiment are several specialty units:
- The Commander in Chief’s Guard
- The US Army Fife and Drum Corps
- The Caisson Platoon
- The Presidental Salute Battery
- The Continental Color Guard
- The US Army Drill Team
- Sentinels for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
The Regiment Works with the US Army Band (TUSAB)
On a frequent basis, the regiment also produces The Spirit of America pageantry and Twilight Tattoos working with the US Army Band (TUSAB). The band, known as “Pershing’s Own” is also garrisoned on Fort Myer.
